The European Innovation Partnership (EIP) for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability is one of the main initiatives of the European Commission to support research and innovation in agriculture. This EIP is designed as a network facility for improving technological transfer from research to the farm and the feedback loop from the farm-level back into research programming. In practice, the EIP will strengthen the links between research funded under Horizon 2020 and more operational projects funded under the Rural Development Programmes.

Representing the whole plant breeding innovation chain from fundamental research to crop production and food processing, the European Technology Platform 'Plants for the Future' is a major stakeholder of the agricultural sector and is committed to stimulating research and innovation in plant genetic resources to the benefit of the grower and final consumer.

This event will look into the different ways the EIP can help enhance the innovation potential of plant genetic resources, and highlight initiatives in the plant breeding sector that can serve as a basis for the further development of the EIP.

What’s in it for you? Whether you are a plant breeder, an innovation expert or if you hold a general interest in agriculture and rural development:

  • Get to know the role and contribution of the European plant breeding sector
  • Get to know the EIP for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability
  • Take part in an exciting debate on how to realise the full potential of plants

What else?
A plant contest of course! Test your knowledge of plant biology: 5 young plants will be on display and you will have to guess which plant species is which. If you score higher than 3, you will have the chance of winning a weekend trip for two to Barcelona (Spain) and a visit to a breeding company (Semillas Fitó)!

What’s more?
Plants tweet too! Ahead of the event, join the debate on Twitter at #Plants2Innovate. The best questions will be put forward on the day. There will also be live tweeting during the event and plenty of opportunities to interact with the speakers and panellists
